Members of the Rotary Club of Stafford and North Stafford Rotary Club club met up at the Stafford County Public Safety Building on Sunday afternoon. We were treated to a tour of the Office of Stafford County Sheriff - David "DP" Decatur, Sheriff by Sheriff Decatur himself!

The first stop was a visit to the Emergency Communications dept. Our group was learning about the process that occurs when calls are received when a live 911 call came in, and we were able to witness it in real time. We heard the receiving Communications Officer and their dispatching counterpart work in concert to handle the call, sending help within seconds, with professionalism and kindness. I’m so impressed by the calm manner they maintained throughout. The experience and the follow up that Sheriff Decatur provided about how these folks have to mentally handle the stress of their important job, spurred an idea for a Mental Health project our Rotary clubs in Rotary District 7610 could do to support these valuable and essential members of the emergency team. More info to come on that for sure!!!

Next stop was a command center designed to put all the key reps of various entities in a central communicative location in the event of a natural (or other) disaster scenario in the county or surrounding areas, or any event that would require collaboration from many areas of the county/region. There was a cool glassed interior room, with a conference table and everything!
