Flags for Heroes Ceremony 2023

Between Memorial Day and Flag Day each year, North Stafford Rotary mounts 200 flags outside of the Stafford County, Virginia Courthouse. The display is a spectacular reminder of the heroes that fought, and still fight, for our country, as well as everyday heroes in our community. Individuals and businesses sponsor flags for the heroes in their lives, benefiting different local organizations each year.

In 2023, the funds raised benefited Project Healing Waters and Black Horse Forge, two therapeutic veterans’ organizations. On Flag Day, we held a lovely closing ceremony on the steps of the old courthouse building. Stafford County Government Chair of the Board Dr. Pamela Yeung, Vice Chair Tom Coen, and Supervisor Monica Gary were in attendance, as well as Ms. Mejia from Senator Tim Kaine’s office. Several county administrators and support staff also attended. North Stafford Rotary presented Project Healing Waters and Black Horse Forge each with a check for $1,000.

We’re so grateful for the support of our many donors, Long Family Markets, and Stafford County for making this annual tradition possible. The staff of Stafford County Parks and Recreation deserve special recognition for helping to emplace and remove the flags.
